04/03/2010 - What's Your Next Box
Check this section of the website out each Thursday to see an explanation of your Avid produce selections. Please remember produce is subject to alteration, so this must just be treated as a guide. If you wish to add to your existing order, please feel free to go online and do so. Once past the order deadline, I can't guarantee delivery of extra goods, but will try my hardest! I hope you enjoy your selections. Keep logging in, to check for alterations and more information you'll find useful.
What a treat! Local rocket is available this week. Lovely...a change from roots (as nice as they are...)
Cauliflowers are not available again, I'm afraid. They are delicate little creatures, that hate the cold.
Next week (deliveries 9th-12th March) in the smaller standard & variety veg boxes, you'll find potatoes, beets, broccoli (non UK-please let me know if you would prefer NOT to have it), washed carrots, onions, parsnips, leeks, swede and red cabbage. Larger boxes also contain bakers, mushrooms and rocket.
Budget veg boxes contain the usual-loose carrots, onions, potatoes and one other veg...a surprise!
Euro veg boxes contain variable amounts of the following: onions, courgette, mushrooms, peppers and squash..yum! The mixed Fruit/Euro Veg also includes apples, mango and bananas.
Salad boxes feature lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and a few other ingredients to make lovely light meals, or side dishes. Larger salad boxes also contain rocket, mixed sprouts and cherry tomatoes.
Standard fruit boxes contain apples, plums, oranges and bananas. Budget fruit boxes will contain apples, oranges and pears. The juice & smoothie box has lots of fruit to experiment with-mango, pears, kiwi, plums and grapefruit.
The No Top Ups Box will contain a mixture of the above, salad, standard & Euro veg and fruit. (See NEWS pages for more info).

I begin this month with Kaaren Johnson, a regular Avid customer. After kindly giving me a novel hand-made funky, safety pin bracelet for Xmas, I discovered she not only makes her own jewellery, but also, runs a beauty business from her home, in Holmfirth. She says the two go hand in hand-beauty clients buy her jewellery and jewellery customers, from the various summer/winter fairs she attends, show interest in the treatments.

I'm really pleased to announce my involvement with Busters Coffee, a Sheffield based social firm who not only supply gorgeous fair-trade, ethically sourced, organic coffee, but also are employers of local people who find it difficult to get jobs. It's that time of year when we all start thinking about snuggling up with homely comfort food. By popular demand, I've added my Soup & Stew box to the Autumn Box Combination aisle. It contains lots of lovely produce to help you whip up gorgeous budget meals-for example, potatoes, carrots, onion, swede, broccoli, cabbage, parsnip.....yum!
The box value is approximately £10, but when purchased from the Autumn Box Combination aisle, costs just £8.50. With enough produce to create multiple meals, it really is a great buy.

There's a nip in the air and the nights are sadly, drawing in. So, what could be better than a bowl of hearty, healthy soup?
When I had my organic cafe in Holmfirth, my homemade soup used to fly out of the door. Today I've added some of the most popular varieties to my Non Certified Home Baked aisle (14th on the list of aisles on the Go Sopping pages). They can be found under Home Made Microwave Meals & Soups.
The soups serve 2 and come in reusable containers-perfect for taking to work. And to make a real meal of it, why not add some of my home baked GORGEOUS bread rolls....to make the colder weather taste yummy!

My standard mixed fruit/veg box is so popular; I’ve decided to introduce a Euro version.

Autumn for me is all about good nutrition and healthy living.
Go to the Autumn Box Combinations aisle and you'll find my Juicing & Smoothie boxes. Each box contains a selection of fruits, suitable for juicing, or blending with milk & yoghurt for yummy smoothies. The boxes-one a dairy version-(cows milk & yoghurt), the other non dairy (soya milk & yoghurt) are valued at over £12, but are currently priced at £11.
