How To Store Your avid organic Produce

As our organic produce is not crammed full of preservatives, it does not have the shelf life of "conventional" fruit and vegetables. More care is required to maintain freshness, especially in warmer temperatures. Follow these simple storage techniques to safeguard your beautiful box of nutrition.

PRODUCE

STORAGE

Apples

To prevent over ripening, keep organic apples for up to one month in plastic bags in the refrigerator. Storing organic apples at room temperature hinders crispness. Check stored apples daily, as one rotting apple causes others to decay.

Avocados

Store and eat at room temperature. Refrigerate after ripening.

Bananas

Store and eat at room temperature. Can be refrigerated after ripening. To speed up the ripening of bananas, place them in a paper bag with an apple, in a dark place.

Berries

Keep covered in the refrigerator. Do not wash until you need to use them - too much moisture will speed spoilage. Use within two to three days.

Cherries

Store as above

Citrus Fruits

Keep at room temperature for two to three days. Refrigeration prolongs shelf life to two to three weeks. Avoid plastic bags to store citrus as when airtight, drops of moisture promote mould growth.

Grapes

Refrigerate in perforated bag for up to one week.

Pears

Ripen at room temperature, then refrigerate, unwashed, up to one week.

Pineapple

Store at room temperature. Do not refrigerate.

Soft Fruits

Apricots, Peaches, Pears, Plums, Nectarines and Melons: ripen before refrigeration. Cover cut portions before refrigerating. Use within three to five days. Melons should be used immediately after ripening.
